Welcome to Skelton Crew Studio, home to officially licensed replicas from IDW’s wildly popular "Locke & Key," written by the talented Joe Hill with art by the equally talented Gabriel Rodriguez.
The studio was founded by Israel Skelton in 2008 and was behind IDW’s SDCC exclusive Ghost Key in 2009. Now with the opportunity to offer more wonderfully mysterious baubles from the series, Israel’s grabbing his Anywhere Key and seeing where this new door opens.
Israel’s been sculpting and creating for more than 20 years, ever since making Thor's hammer out of a CedarWorks swing set mallet. (He wrapped the handle in medical tape, colored it with a brown marker and ruled the backyard.)
Today, he works in many mediums – wood, metal, clay, stone – with a specialty in life-size comic replicas. Largely self-taught, he has pieces in private collections all over the world.
Skelton Crew Studio designs aren't just limited to the comic world. Other works include jewelry, tattoos, wedding cake toppers, show lighting, furniture and one glorious stone lakeside cottage.
Israel is available for commission and prototype work. True to its name, his is a one-man shop, but several times he's called on the most talented people he knows. His friends.
Many thanks go out to Mike St. Germain, Tom Bartunek, Peter Gill, Jerry Waite, Don Deschene, Scott Gooding, Andy Palange, Jose Leiva, Shane Leonard, Corey LaFlamme and Gibran Vogue Graham.
Israel lives in the wilds of rural Maine with his wife and a small pack of adorably stubborn corgis.
